When you move to a new country your credit rating will effectively be starting from scratch so it is essential that you are able to prove your credit worthiness to companies and lenders. Make sure that you source as many credit references as possible from your bank, building society or even your mortgage company.
It is also important for you to get hold of employment references before you go as well – even if you already have a job secured. Ask for them to be written fairly generically so they can apply to a number of different positions. This is particularly important if you are moving to a country where there is a large time difference between it and the UK as it may be difficult to reach your past employers within normal working hours.
Inform Necessary Parties
If you’re leaving the country you will need to inform a number of different organisations and bodies. These include your bank, the passport office, pension company (if applicable), the Inland Revenue, insurance brokers & accountants as well as the DVLA, and it may be worth providing them with the address of a close friend or family member to ensure that any correspondence that is sent can be relayed to you.
Arrange for Post to be Redirected
You may temporarily wish for you mail to be redirected to your new home abroad and the Royal Mail can offer an international redirection service for this purpose – the maximum time of which is two years.
